: This monument located in the Nockum Hill section of present day Barrington, Rhode Island reads, "The First Baptist Church in Massachusetts was founded near this spot - AD 1663 - Rev. John Myles." The church was destroyed in King Philip's War and the congregation scattered. After a succession of moves, the congregation and the church were reestablished just across the Hundred Acre Cove at its current Old Barrington Village location.
